Good condition and guaranteed original antique Civil War Sharps New Model 1859 Carbine in .52 percussion caliber. This early gun is one of only about 6,000 made with brass butt plate, patch box, and barrel band. Mechanically complete and excellent. Lock and frame markings are in good condition. The barrel marking is worn. Carbine is serial number 31xxx, which is in the range for the 1,600 M1859 Carbines purchased by the state of Georgia in 1860. Metal has mottled gray and brown patina. Bore is good with strong rifling and some pitting. Wood has been refinished. Left side of wrist has two faint inspector cartouches. Left side of buttstock has a few scratched letters. Underside of forend is stamped “C.H.S. An interesting and scarce brass mounted Sharps New Model 1859 Carbine that will make a fine addition to a collection.
